Thorne Head Preserve Details
Located north of the city of Bath, the Thorne Head Preserve sits in between both the Kennebec River Estuary and the Whiskeag Creek, creating a luscious habitat of wetlands due to the watershed activity. Traversers of the three and a half miles of trails will notice the abundant history here ranges from logging by early settlers, wild rice harvesting by the natives, and pastureland by more recent farmers. Remnants of historic uses are scarcely noticed today though, with the exception of some old stone walls and in names such as that of Murderer's Cave, where a constable's life was once taken during a robbery.
