Located in Casco Bay, the 10 acres of Basket Island are popular for kayakers, boaters, and canoers to stop in for the day and hike or picnic. With small coves and beaches, the spot is perfect for a day trip. Being a wildlife preserve, overnight camping is not permitted, as are visits during certain times of the year due to osprey and eider nesting. Exploring here is still fun though with left behind remnants of old homesteads and WWII bases to be found crumbled and overgrown.
