Silsby Plain Details

Located in Hancock County, the Silsby Plain is a remnant of once-mighty glacial melts. The retreating ice sheets left a large spread of slowly melting water across a wide area that had already been flattened by glacial movement, the resulting rivers were broad as they made their way to the ocean and fattened everything in their wake. Eventually, plains were formed, such as the one here. Interestingly, the remaining soil is naturally sandy and makes for the perfect spot for blueberries to thrive.
