The Sheepscot River is host to another one of Maine's infamous reversing falls. Traveling both forwards and backward based on the tidal flow, these types of waterfalls occur only in rare circumstances. The Sheepscot Reversing Falls in particular occur based on the forcing of tidal waters between two narrow peninsulae jutting out on either side of the river. Due to the warmer water coming from the river, the falls are much more prevalent on the outgoing tide, leading rafters to often take to the whitewater for a little sporting fun.
