Salt Bay Details
Salt Bay, a salt marsh created by the tidal waters and slow seepage of ocean currents into the Damariscotta River. Full of trails and unique landscape, be warned that the area is indeed a marsh, with insects being the most prominent animals found. Now set aside as a wildlife preserve, the Great Salt Bay is a bird-watchers dream destination due to the ecosystem it provides. The focal point here though is the most unique feature, Glidden Midden, an archaeological site of great significance due to its size and compilation of ancient artifacts.
