Piazza Rock Details
Like much of the land of Maine, Saddleback Mountain, a popular ski area, is made up of large slabs of granite. As one of the highest peaks in the state, most come here to hike, though the Piazza Rock along the way is also a major draw to the location. Built-up of layers of rock, the mountain is made of "building block" style slabs. At some point in time, one happened to slide out and, instead of falling down the mountain, got stuck across the way on another chunk of rock. It now forms the popular natural bridge feature known as Piazza Rock.
