Mount Agamenticus Details
As a 10,000-acre conservation region, Mount Agamenticus has something for everyone. Located in an otherwise populated southern Maine, the area has a diverse ecosystem with a large trail system featuring scenic outlooks, coastal forest, and hemlock groves. There was once a ski slope on the hill, though now that it is gone, these days most come here to hike, snowshoe, cross country ski and enjoy the sunset. The mountain itself is a 692-foot tall monadnock, meaning a lone standing mountain, with a unique history as its peak is the resting place of the First Nations Chief, Mi'kmaq Chief St. Aspinquid. Though not a burial site, the St. Aspinquid Rock Pile, located on the summit of the mountain, is thought to replicate a traditional Native American grave. Please respect the site and do not add or remove any rocks from the pile.
