The Knife Edge Details

Everyone has seen the photos of faraway places and mountains, the daring peaks above the clouds with no bottoms, ridges like a fish spine that only the most daring of hikers attempt. The Knife Edge in Maine's Baxter State Park is just such a trail. Reaching a little over a mile from Pamola to Chimney and South Peak, and then on to Baxter Peak, the highest point tops out at 5,267 feet. In some spots nothing but the mountain's jagged spine is available as a foothold, not more than a few inches wide, lending to its very appropriate name.
