Chesterville Esker Details
When the glaciers moved southwards along the country, the heavier objections slowly melted their way to the bottom of the ice sheets and continued to gather and roll their way onwards. Eventually, the masses of rocks and debris pushed along with the glacial sheets had to stop once the glaciers start melting. As they recede backward, mounds were left behind to form what is known as an esker. Characterized on one side by cliffs and the other by a gentle slope, the Chesterville Esker is one such structure rising 30 feet high and dividing two ponds.
