Still a work in progress with plans for even more expansion, the Mountain Division Trail was once a scenic railroad route from Portland to Vermont. Running through the White Mountains, the popular length stopped running in 1958, though there is a possibility it may run again one day. Until that time, the current pathway is a mostly paved and easy walk with the sections eventually equaling a total of 50 miles. Running through forests, with the occasional mountain views, visitors will also find multiple off-shooting trails taking them to nearby historic towns and popular sites.
