Dating back to the 17th century early colonial settlements, the history of Colonial Pemaquid Beach is unique. Once a trading site and the source of multiple conflicts, now all that remains of the old buildings and settlers are grassy knolls where a fort once stood and a few small monuments. Visitors can make a day of the site by spending some time on the water and relaxing in the sun and then hiking off to learn a little history. Afterward, it's only a short stretch to head into town for some traditional east coast fare.
