The Blanding's Park Wildlife Sanctuary is unique based on the fact that it is a completely volunteer, grassroots conservation. Recognizing that the town of Biddeford, Maine was home to a variety of endangered species, the town citizens took it upon themselves to work on preserving as much of this delicate habitat as they could. Interestingly, a lot of the area they are protecting is residential or in development, however, the delicate land of vernal pools and wetlands are home to their main focus, the Blanding's and Spotted Turtle, which they are working adamantly with the state and locals to protect.
