Saco Heath Details
The Saco Heath is unique for many reasons, but most prominent is its uncommon ecology due to the coalesced blog shape. Usually, wetlands sink, sometimes though the swelling of vegetation and waterlogging create the perfect environment where they raise up in something like a "bubble." Because of the extraordinary land shape, the flora and fauna here are rarely found elsewhere. Saco Heath, in particular, is the furthest south visitors can discover such a sight. It is also the only such type bog where Atlantic white cedars grow, making the boardwalks well worth a visit for nature lovers and photographers.
