Mount Champlain Details
A 2.1-mile moderate out-and-back hike. Seemingly indistinct, Champlain Mountain in Acadia National Park is one of the many popular hikes here due to its location and views. As the sixth tallest mountain in the park, the trails lead from and two other mountains and routes, one of the most famous being the Precipice Trail. Riding the eastern side of the mountain, the trail follows the cliffs for stunning features and hauntingly narrow rock walkways, held together only with iron rungs. Anyone wary of heights or climbing should avoid this route. Most opt for the Beachcroft Path, via Huguenot Head, on the western side of the mountain. The "path" is made of approximately 1,500 cut granite stairs and is not recommended in wet weather.
