A 3.2-mile strenuous out-and-back hike. Though only roughly 3 miles roundtrip, a hike up Mt. Blue for anything but an advanced hiker will take a good couple hours or more. The trail is steep, rocky, and can be slippery during inclement weather. Despite its difficulty, this is a popular hike due to its perfect views of the neighboring lakes and mountains. Noted and well-known for miles around, Mt. Blue is the focal point of Mt. Blue State Park and a happy consequence of the Great Depression. After purchasing farmland as part of the reconstruction process, the area has now grown to 8,000 acres of Maine wilderness, primed for exploring.
