Flying Mountain Details
A 1.5-mile loop moderate loop hike in Acadia National Park. A visit to Flying Mountain provides hikers with beautiful views and interesting history of the surrounding land. The well-maintained trail takes visitors to the summit of this quaint mountain, aptly named by the Wabanaki because it appears to have "flown off" off the nearby Acadia Mountain. The summit offers views of the ocean, Somes Sound, and Valley Cove where British Warships once took shelter. Interestingly, the sound is considered to be a Fjard, a geographical feature not common to the United States.
