Bar Island Access Details
The sand bar is only accessible for about three hours per day -- 1.5 hours before and after low tide. It connects the town of Bar Harbor to Bar Island. The sandbar is accessible from Bridge Street in Bar Harbor; cars are allowed to park on and drive across the sandbar, but this is risky and not recommended. Cars are not allowed on Bar Island, but there are scenic hiking trails to explore.
