Pack out all solid pet waste. - **Wildlife Guidelines:** In recent years, eagles have been on-again, off-again nesters on Potato Island. If you observe nesting eagles on the island, please notify the MITA office and consider an alternate destination. Located to the east of nearby Sheep Island and Stinson Neck, Potato Island has a high topography and features a thin spruce forest that is in transition. Many mature trees have toppled leaving scattered dead wood interspersed with regeneration in the understory. A shell beach that extends west to an exposed ledge provides wonderful landing and swimming opportunities. Great picnic rocks rim the island. Camping is allowed on the west side of island. Please use care when ascending the steep island banks to prevent erosion. A small path from the campsite leads to a nice outlook that offers views of Mount Desert Island and points east.
