Maine State Pier Details
This city-owned pier serves as the transit hub for the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal, as well as several boat cruises. The ferry service runs year-round and this is a great spot to sit and watch the traffic - both the ferries and other boats coming and going in the harbor. Compass Park, which is the open space on the pier, is also a popular fishing destination. You can also see the "Whales off the Coast of Maine" mural, also known as the "Whaling Wall". It was painted by artist Robert Wyland in 1993 as part of his mission to create an outdoor mural of whales and other ocean life in 100 different cities around the world. This was number thirty-six.
