Fort McClary State Historic Site Details

Today Fort McClary State Historic Site has been the site of fortifications protecting the mouth of the Piscataqua River for the past almost 300 years. Though none of today's standing structures are part of the original fortress, they were used extensively throughout the decades and in most major wars since. The blockhouse on the property is one of the last ones built and has been restored for park visitors, along with a few other structures that were not too dilapidated since its decommissioning in 1918. The fort is named after Major Andrew McClary who died at the Revolutionary War's Battle of Bunker Hill. Facilities: Picnic Area, Group Picnic Shelter, Restrooms, Parking
