Penobscot Narrows Observatory Details
If you love observatories and amazing views, then the Penobscot Narrows Observatory needs to be on your bucket list. After the failure of the original crossing, the 2,000 plus bridge was designed with the old and new in mind. It is only one of three cable-stayed bridges constructed in the United States (the others being Zakim Bridge in Boston, Massachusetts, and Veterans' Glass City Skyway in Toledo, Ohio). Made of tall granite obelisks, the observatory at the top offers sweeping views of Penobscot Bay, river, and the surrounding landscape. When visiting, be sure to stop by Fort Knox as well, one of the best-preserved forts on the northeastern coast with a history just as significant.
