As one of Maine's oldest "working byways" the Fish River Scenic Byway on Route 11 offers a different outlook for travelers than your typical scenic routes. Only 37 miles long but passing through half a dozen townships, visitors will encounter the friendliness and hospitality that comes from those growing up deeply rooted in French-Acadian cultural communities. The wilderness areas here are known for their ruggedness, as were the travelers that eventually made their homes amongst the eagles and moose. Today, a stop in town or along a hiking trail will give one a feel of what the past may have once been like.
