Birch Point State Park Details
Not old or very big, the 62 acres of Birch Point State Park is worth a visit to swim, bike, picnic, or hike. Located on the Penobscot Bay on Maine's midcoast, the beach here is popular for families to visit in the summer months (Memorial through Labor Day) to fish, play in the surf, and take in the scenic view of the Muscle Ridge Islands, named so for their likeness to muscles in the water. Being along the coast, the wildlife here is also out in abundance and is a popular spot to animal watch. The crescent shape also keeps waves to a minimum, making it a great spot to swim if the temperature is right. If lying in the sun sounds boring, each end of the beach has rocky outcroppings where the adventurous type of beachgoers can go climbing or tidal pool exploring.
