Maple Spring Trail Details

This is a little traveled, picturesque trail over steep wooded slopes and rocky ledges with a number of brook crossings and rough footing. Before beginning the steep ascent, it passes the beautiful double-arched Deer Brook Bridge on the carriage road and dips down into a small, pretty gorge flanked by tall white pines and hemlocks. The trail is virtually identical to Hadlock Brook Trail and runs parallel to it as it climbs up Sargent Mountain, but ends a bit closer to the summit. Combined, they make a great loop up and down the mountain. Trailhead: east side of Route 198; 2.7 miles from intersection with Route 233.
