Tower-Roosevelt Area Details

Yellowstone's Northeast Entrance Road ends at Tower Junction, where you'll find the Tower Ranger Station. Here you can acquire backcountry and fishing permits, or continue on your journey to Mammoth Hot Springs to the northwest or Canyon Village to the southeast. If you didn't make the hike up to Specimen Ridge to see the petrified trees, there's an example at the roadside exhibit about 1.5 miles before you reach the Tower-Roosevelt junction. Other nearby sights include Tower Fall, Calcite Springs, and the Yellowstone River. The Roosevelt Lodge Historic District, close to Tower Junction, includes 143 historic buildings in rustic style, including cabins, a store and powerhouse, and the lodge itself. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt reputedly camped near this spot in 1903.
