Marconi Station Site Details
Guglielmo Marconi chose this barren site high on the Wellfleet coastline for his experimental wireless operation, and it was from this spot that the first transatlantic radio message was sent from the U.S. in 1902 -- a chat between President Theodore Roosevelt and King Edward VII of England. The Marconi Station in Wellfleet was also one of the first land stations to pick up the distress call of the *Titanic* in 1912, and played a role in rescuing survivors from the *Castagna*, an Italian four-rigger that wrecked just offshore in 1914. The viewing platform here is built over the former Marconi Station site.
