Esthwaite Water Details
Situated between the much larger lakes of Windermere and Coniston Water, the lake is known for its excellent fishing, particularly trout and pike. Designated as a site of special scientific interest, Esthwaite Water is also a first class, well managed Trout fishery. It is a beautiful natural 280 acre water with excellent facilities for boat or bank fishing. As well as fantastic Trout fishing, this premier venue offers legendary winter Pike fishing as well as general coarse fishing. There is a fully stocked onsite fishing tackle shop and offer fly fishing tuition and a guiding service. You can also take a self-driven electric boat ride around Esthwaite Water. Ospreys have successfully nested here for several years. During their season from April to October they can be seen fishing most days, and if you are particularly lucky you will see them hunt and dive and catch fish. The lake was mentioned in Wordsworth's poem, The Prelude: "Make green peninsulas on Esthwaite's Lake", and also: "From Esthwaite's neighbouring lake the splitting ice". To the north is the village of Hawkshead and to the west is Grizedale Forest. Grid Reference: SD 35917 96886 Address (near): B5285, Ambleside LA22 0JX, UK
