Learn About the Park
Cuyahoga Valley National Park is different from your typical national park. Located near Cleveland and Akron, Ohio, it contains wild places as well as developed environments along the Cuyahoga River and the Ohio & Erie Canal. The 33,000-acre park preserves a sliver of rural and forested landscapes in defiance of urban sprawl. Forests and farmland compete for attention, and along with hiking and biking wooded trails visitors can explore the region's history with a stroll along the canal towpath, drive the 110-mile Ohio & Erie Canalway Scenic Byway, or climb aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Hikers and bikers often travel the towpath in one direction, then take the train back. Park rangers demonstrate the operation of a working canal lock, the Hale Farm and Village living history museum offers a glimpse of 19th century life in the valley, and the Cleveland Orchestra and other perform during the summer in the park's Blossom Music Center.
