Windermere Way Details
The Windermere Way is a 45-mile walking route that completely circles the lake of the same name. Established footpaths and bridle trails comprise most of the route, although some road walking is involved. Segments of the walk are also delineated as separate Lake District walks (Windermere to Ambleside, for example. The low-elevation parts of the walk frequently cleave to the lakeside, but there is also plenty of climbing involved: the trail summits a number of fells, including Wansfell, Loughrigg Fell, and Gummer's How. Windermere's ferry system can be used to augment the walk if you only wish to walk sections.
