Touring the Lake District National Park by car offers many varied and spectacular country drives on the roads that crisscross the park. There are no particular tour routes through the park but the countryside is so lovely it's easy to string together a beautiful drive. Green Road driving is permitted on certain specific routes that are only fit for 4x4 vehicles and trail bikes in addition to horseriders, cyclists and walkers. These roads are "unsealed," meaning they are loose gravel or packed dirt routes and you are recommended to have some experience of driving on these surfaces before you head out. Some are restricted to permit holders to restrict the environmental damage such vehicles cause in sensitive habitats--so its worth doing your homework before you set off.
