There isn't much to fear in Lake District National Park. As long as you've checked the weather and are dressed appropriately (or have the appropriate gear on hand), you shouldn't have an issue with exposure. There are few instances of dangerous exposure on any walking or hiking trails, and no large predators - bears, mountain lions and the like - to watch for, so that leaves only a few creatures to watch for and a few common-sense precautions to take. Many walking routes cross roads or follow roads for a short way; when this is the case, use caution and stay alert for traffic. There is a small chance that you'll come across a snake while you're in the park. The adder, also called a viper, is the UK's only venomous native snake and while rarely fatal to humans, can be harmful to dogs. If you see one, back away and leave it alone. If you're hiking through the forest or through high grass or brush be aware that you may find a tick - the tiny blood-sucking insects - on your person.
