When to Visit

Planning your visit to the Lake District National Park depends partly on your interests. This park is known for its hiking, walking, cycling and climbing opportunities, making spring, summer and autumn beautiful and popular times to visit. Winter can be equally attractive, however, when the snow and ice can be quite dramatic even in a landscape as inherently spectacular as this. Cross country and downhill skiing is possible in the right conditions and the Lake District even has its own Ski Club. It seems that every month of the year there's a festival or event of some sort going on in the Lake District and many visitors time a trip to coincide with a favourite gathering, so consulting a calendar and checking out the festivals is a good idea before heading into the park.
