Tomichi Route Details

The Tomichi Route is the steepest, most strenuous inner-canyon route on the South Rim. For access, follow the Rock Rim Trail from the South Rim Campground Loop C to post #13, which marks the official start of trail. Directions from this point are pretty straightforward: descend until you reach the bottom. That can be easier said than done, however: the Tomichi Route's is notorious for especially long stretches of loose rocks and scree, so at times the descent feels more like a technical climbing route than a challenging hiking trail. Follow the brushy trail from the bottom another half mile to reach the river.
