Basic Information
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is located in southwest Colorado, a five-hour drive west-southwest from Denver, three hours north of Durango, 90 minutes southeast of Grand Junction, and three hours east of Moab, Utah. The South Rim is a seven-mile ride north on Colorado Highway 347 from the intersection with U.S. Highway 50, located 7.7 miles east of Montrose. The North Rim is 11 miles southwest of Crawford via Colorado Highway 92 and Black Canyon Road, which is largely unpaved. Note that there is no bridge connecting the North and South Rims, so to get from one rim to the other you'll need to circle the park and canyon, a drive of at least two hours no matter which direction you travel. No public transportation serves the park.
