Casareto Cabin Details
In 1934, Dr. Joseph Casareto hired a team of wood workers to build a summer cabin along the banks of Crane Lake. When it was first constructed it was a simple log cabin with a screened-in porch. Casareto added on to it over the next several years as his family grew. The cabin is still standing today, one of only three cabins in the park that remain from that early period of tourism and recreation. It is on National Register of Historic Places and has undergone restoration, to ensure that it will remain standing for many years to come. The cabin is significant because it represents the beginnings of tourism and recreation in the area, as well as for its architecture, as it was quite impressive given the period it was constructed. The cabin is located at the head of the Northwest Bay on Crane Lake.
