Activities
There are several ranger-led tours offered at the park, from powerboat tours to canoe tours. Board The Voyageur for a two and a half hour tour of Rainy Lake, including wildlife viewing, looking for eagle and osprey nests and a short stopover on Little American Island. The Voyageur Tour Boat and the Amik Tour Boat also run full-day tours to the historic Kettle Falls Hotel, including a two-hour stopover at the hotel to each lunch and explore. Rangers also lead a half-hour walking tour of the hotel area and dam. To get to this tour you must take a cruise or your own personal watercraft. Once a year, rangers lead the Ghosts of Voyageurs Tour, a one and a half hour lantern-lit walking tour through the history of the voyageurs. There are stories, reenactments, interpretive guides and lots of laughter. Reservations required. Canoe Tours offer a more active way to view the park. Paddle an old-school 26-foot long birth-bark North Canoe, learn the historic voyageur paddler's salute and experience the lakes the way our predecessors did. The Beaver Tour allows you to get up close and personal with an active beaver dam, too. All participants are required to paddle, so bring your muscles and your enthusiasm! Canoe tours and walking tours are free, while boat tours cost around $30 per person and $15 for kids. Walk-ups are welcome on all tours, though you are encouraged to reserve ahead of time, as the tours do tend to fill up. Ticket sales for boat tours stop a half hour before departure time.
