Cedar Tree Tower Details

Discovered on the mesa tops, this ancestral Puebloan tower can be viewed right from the road. Towers were built during the Classic period (A.D. 1100 to 1300) at Mesa Verde. With an association with a kiva, which is a room used by Puebloans for religious rituals, there is speculation that the towers were built for a ceremonial purpose or perhaps even a communication system. The trailhead for the Farming Terrace Trail is adjacent to the Cedar Tree Tower area. The road is typically open 7:30 a.m. to sunset.
