Basic Information

Mesa Verde National Park is definitely a kid-friendly park! Almost all options are kid-friendly. Depending on your child's age and stage in physical development, simply read the trail descriptions to make sure your child is able to complete a hiking trail or tour independently. Its important to note that on ranger-led tours of the cliff dwellings, there is no turning back, so you need to be certain that your child can complete the cliff dwelling tour independently. Mesa Verde also has an active Junior Ranger program for kids ages 4-12! Pick up your free activity booklet at the Visitors Center or Museum; when youre done, turn in your completed packet for review and earn a fun Junior Ranger badge! On summer afternoons, the Museum also offers a special Junior Ranger Station full of hands-on activities to engage in learning about the Ancestral Puebloan people, generally open in the Museum Courtyard from 3-5. Have fun! Finally, Aramark, the concessionaire, offers a 4.5 hour family-friendly guided bus tour in the summer. You can buy tickets at the Visitors Center, Morefield Campground, or the Far View Lodge.
