Unfortunately, most of the cliff dwellings are difficult for those with mobility impairments to tour, as they require climbing up and down ladders. If you have a physical mobility impairment, the Mesa Verde Visitor and Research Center is fully accessible, with a wheelchair available to borrow, designated parking, restrooms, and drinking fountain. The Museum also has a wheelchair available that can be borrowed, as well as portable ramps that staff are more than happy to assist for the few areas of the Museum with one to three steps. The Museum has designated parking, restrooms, water fountains, and great closed-caption film. Low-vision visitors can also request tactile exploration of artifacts. Morefield Campground and Picnic Areas also have designated parking, restrooms, and signed accessible sites on the Navajo Loop. The Mesa Loop Top Road six-mile drive is the best choice for those with physical impairments. There are also accessible restrooms at Cliff Palace. Located in Wetherhill Mesa, Step House, the only self-guided cliff dwelling tour, is accessible with assistance. Please note that it is a steep and strenuous trail that is graveled in some spots; wide-rimmed wheels recommended. Also in Wetherill Mesa, the Badger House Community Trail is accessible with assistance, and is relatively level with some areas of gravel. Service dogs are welcome throughout the park, but not on the cliff-dwelling tours, as those require climbing up and down ladders.
