Basic Information

No surprises here, like many of our national parks, shoulder season guarantees the fewest crowds and most breathing room. However, the summer season offers the most tour availability, as the park increases the number and frequency of its tours to accommodate summer visitors. If you go in May, you can hope to catch the wildflowers in bloom; September you may see a few fall colors, and the weather in October can be spectacular! If you're a hardy winter hiker, snowshoer, or cross-country skier, January and February are the least crowded months. Most people visit the park in June, July, and August, so if you're okay with a few more Homo sapien sightings on your trip, join and enjoy the crowd! Don't worry, the park does a good job accommodating for the influx of summer visitors, and Morefield Campground rarely fills.
