Cannon Beach is part of a long stretch of sandy coastal beaches reminiscent of Oregon or California. In fact, the nearby town of Yakutat is halfway along a nearly 300 mile stretch of beaches. The beach is open to recreation year-round. Surfing, picnicking, and hiking are popular here. You can access Cannon Beach on old military roads built during World War II. There are also WWII cannons and other artifacts along the beach's spruce and hemlock treeline- hence the name Cannon Beach! This beach is not inside Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. It is within Tongass National Forest.
