The Upper Burro Mesa Pouroff Trail is a moderate 4.5 mile out and back trail that leads to the top of a dry waterfall that general takes around 2.5 hours to complete. There is a natural arch you can scramble up to if you wish, or you can just enjoy the smaller canyons you hike through to reach the end. The generally flat nature of the trail makes it ideal for all skill levels, including children. The view from the top is spectacular and the various trail options make this one of the top ten most popular hikes in Big Bend. Because you are following a dry wash downstream as your trail, be sure to remember which drainages you followed on the way out so you can follow the same ones back. You can access the Upper Burro Mesa Pouroff Trailhead off of Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive by taking a right just below Sotol Vista and parking at the end of the spur road.
