**Q: When is the park busiest?** A: The park is busiest between November and April, especially during the holiday season and spring break weeks. Make sure to make reservations and have a flexible itinerary during this peak visitation time. Annual visitation is 300,000 - 350,000 each year. **Q: When do the wildflowers bloom?** A: Most of the wildflowers bloom between late February and early April, however, there are a group that bloom in July and August because of the summer rains. **Q: Can I swim in the river?** A: River swimming is not recommended due to strong currents, sharp objects on the riverbed, deep holes and other dangers. There is a great swimming area three hours north of the park in Balmorhea State Park. However, if you want to relax and do some soaking, the hot springs in the Rio Grande Village (105 degrees) are available for day use; please no alcohol or pets near the hot springs. **Q: Can I fish in the river?** A: Fishing is allowed in the park, but you must get a free permit from one of the visitor centers before you head out. **Q: Can I enter the park if I arrive after business hours?** A: Yes. The entrance stations are open 24/7, but please remember to return and pay your entrance fee the next day at a visitor center or entrance station. **Q: Are campfires allowed?** A: No. Ground and wood fires are not allowed in the park, but charcoal for the campground grills is allowed as well as fire pans and containerized stoves for rafting or backpacking trips. **Q: Is horseback riding allowed in the park?** A: Yes, horseback riding is allowed if you bring your own horse and obtain a backcountry permit. The stables in Study Butte and Lajitas offer guided horse trips just outside the park. **Q: Are there any showers available?** A: Yes, showers are available the Rio Grande Village Store and a change machine is provided as there is a charge for showers.
