If you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the endangered California Condor! 181 other species of bird can be found in the park thanks to varied habitats such as grasslands, chaparral, woodland and riparian, among others. Bring a pair of binoculars in the 7 to 10 power range to enhance your birding experience. Birds of prey that circle the high peaks - California Condors and Turkey Vultures, for example - can be sighted more easily with a spotting scope. And though you'll have your eyes to the sky, be mindful of poison oak and rattlesnakes.
