On the mainland in Ventura, Calif., the Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center is the best place to start your trip to Channel Islands National Park. Here you'll find a bookstore, a marine life display, and exhibits highlighting each of the five islands found within the park. "A Treasure in the Sea" is a 25-minute movie that gives a good introduction to the park; it's shown throughout the day. Information regarding ranger-led programs can be found at the visitor center, as well as a schedule, and rangers are on hand to answer your questions before you set off to the islands. The Visitor Center is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
