The Fantastic Lava Beds Details
About 350 to 400 years ago, an eruption of the Cinder Cone created the Fantastic Lava Beds, one of Lassen's most popular and celebrated features. Consisting of a thick, black sheet of solidified lava, the Lava Beds cover a few square miles and can be seen from many points in the park. The best way to view the Fantastic Lava Beds is on the Cinder Cone Trail, where you'll walk along the edge of this field of congealed, dried lava. Note that while you cannot walk on the lava beds, you can climb up the Cinder Cone for a better view.
