Sundance Trail System Details
The Sundance Trail System is the most secluded trail systems in the park. There are nearly 40 miles of trails throughout the Bearlodge Mountains. The trails weave through canyons and climb ridges, with incredible views of Devil's Tower, the Custer Expedition Route, and Twin Missouri Buttes. Many of these trails were established hundreds of years ago by pioneer settlers in the region; they were often used to reach mining operations or fresh water sources. You might see evidence of the 1936 Sundance Fire, which burned over 8,000 acres and left scars that remain to this day. Take Country Road 123 three miles north from Sundance to access these trails.
