Pickerel Lake Recreation Area, South Dakota

One of the deepest lakes in the state is the 955-acre Pickerel Lake, which is known for its spring-fed waters and American Indian name, which means "where you can spear long fish." During the 1900s, excursion boats were common on the lake.
